Vladimir Conde Reche
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and my work as a dance artist has been shaped by a wide-ranging and international path. I hold a BFA from The Juilliard School and an MFA in Choreography from the University of Iowa, experiences that continue to inform both my teaching and creative practice.
My professional career began in Brazil, performing with companies such as Cisne Negro Dance Company and Ballet Stagium, and has since expanded through guest appearances and collaborations with artists and institutions across the world. My work has taken me throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, and beyond, each place contributing to how I understand movement, culture, and exchange.
For more than two decades, I have worked within the university setting, while continuing to engage actively with professional artists and young dancers beyond it. This dual perspective allows me to connect rigorous academic training with the immediacy and demands of the professional field.
Grounded in ballet and informed by training in Graham, Limón, and Taylor techniques—as well as working with Ohad Naharin during a Gaga intensive in Israel—I approach teaching as a bridge between tradition and evolution. I aim to prepare dancers for the realities of today’s performance landscape, supporting them in developing clarity, adaptability, and a strong artistic voice.
As a choreographer, I work collaboratively with composers, designers, and artists across disciplines to create work for both students and professionals. My projects move between contemporary, ballet, and theatrical contexts, including plays and musicals. I am particularly interested in how choreography can engage with the present moment—inviting dialogue and offering new perspectives through movement.
Alongside my work in the studio and on stage, I integrate digital media into my creative process. Using tools such as video and image editing, I explore additional layers of composition and visual storytelling, extending the work beyond performance into new creative territories.
